How to Edit Location Names in TravelAnimator

|Jaseel

TravelAnimator now gives you the flexibility to edit location names added through the search bar, imported GPX files, or Google Maps links, so your map labels look as good as your animation.

Imagine you’ve created a beautiful travel animation, but the location name includes long numbers, street details, or technical map terms. While the location is accurate, the label feels cluttered and doesn’t match the clean, cinematic look of your video. You still want to show exactly where you traveled, but in a way that feels clear, meaningful, and visually appealing. That’s exactly where editing location names in TravelAnimator becomes essential.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to edit location names step by step, understand when and why customization matters, avoid common mistakes, and see how refined labels improve travel storytelling without interrupting your animation flow.

What Are Location Labels in TravelAnimator?

Location labels are text markers that appear on the map to represent the places you’ve selected in your animation. These labels are created automatically when you search for a place using the search bar, import a GPX file with waypoints, or add locations using a Google Maps link.

Each selected location gets a corresponding label that appears on the map during the animation. These labels help viewers understand where the journey starts and ends, which locations are important, and how the route progresses geographically.

By default, TravelAnimator uses the official place name or coordinate-based name provided by map data. While accurate, these names aren’t always ideal for storytelling. That’s why TravelAnimator lets you edit location names manually, so your animation speaks in your voice rather than just relying on map data.

Why You Might Need to Edit Location Names

Not every trip is best explained with raw location names. Editing location labels gives you flexibility and control over how your journey is presented. Here are common reasons creators edit location names.

  • Sometimes the default name is too long or complex, making the map look cluttered. Editing helps keep labels clean and readable.
  • In other cases, the location name may be technically correct but emotionally flat. Renaming it adds context.
  • If you’re creating content for social media, shorter and more descriptive names work better for fast-moving videos.
  • When importing GPX files, waypoint names may be generic or unclear. Editing them makes the route easier to follow.
  • You might also want consistency in using similar naming patterns across all locations to improve professionalism.
  • Ultimately, editing location names ensures your audience understands where you went and why that place is important.

Step-by-Step Guide to Edit Location Names in TravelAnimator

  1. Start by opening your TravelAnimator project.
  2. Once your route and locations are visible on the map, tap the preview button, a blue arrow at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Go to the Place Labels option in the editing interface from the preview screen. This section controls all customizations to location labels for your selected places.
  4. Ensure the Place Labels are toggled on so labels are visible.
  5. Then tap the Edit Labels option in the place labels. This screen displays a list of all location labels currently used in your animation. Each label corresponds to a location selected through search, GPX, or Google Maps links.
  6. In the Edit Labels screen, each location appears as a separate entry. You’ll see the current label text, a visibility toggle and an edit (pencil) icon. Scroll through the list and locate the specific place name you want to modify.
  7. Edit the location name by tapping the pencil (edit) icon next to the location name. This allows you to change the label text.
  8. You can shorten the name, add context, rename it for storytelling clarity, etc. Once edited, confirm the change.
  9. Control label visibility if needed, by turning individual location labels on or off without deleting the location itself. This is useful when you want to hide less important stops, you only want key locations labeled, or you’re creating a cleaner visual layout.
  10. After editing your labels, tap the blue tick mark to confirm and apply changes. Your updated location names will now appear in the animation exactly as you edited them.

Best Practices for Editing Location Names in TravelAnimator

  • Keep names short and readable. Long labels can overlap routes and clutter the map.
  • Use consistent naming styles throughout the animation.
  • Avoid excessive punctuation or emojis unless your style clearly supports it.
  • Prioritize important locations. Not every stop needs a visible label.
  • Match the tone of your labels to your content. A cinematic travel film needs a different name than a casual vlog.
  • Think from the viewer’s perspective. If someone unfamiliar with the region watches your video, will the label make sense instantly, like that

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Editing Location Labels in TravelAnimator

  • One common mistake is overcrowding the map with too many visible labels. This can distract from the route and animation flow.
  • Another mistake is inconsistent naming, mixing formal names with casual phrases at random.
  • Some users overwrite meaningful place names with vague labels like “Stop 1” or “Here,” which removes context.
  • Forgetting to review label placement after editing can also cause overlaps with route lines or icons.
  • Lastly, editing labels too late in the process without previewing the animation may lead to mistakes.

How Edited Location Names Improve Travel Storytelling in TravelAnimator

Travel storytelling is about guiding attention. Edited location names help viewers understand where the journey begins, which moments are most important, and how the trip progresses emotionally. Instead of passively showing geography, edited labels actively support your narrative.

They add clarity without needing extra text overlays, reinforce emotional beats without voiceovers, and make complex routes easier to follow. When combined with routes, vehicle animations, images, and camera movements, customized location names turn a simple map animation into a story with purpose.

Make Your Travel Animations Clear and Personal

Editing location names in TravelAnimator gives you control over how your journey is understood. You’re not locked into auto-generated place names. You can personalize, simplify, and enhance every location label. Whether you’re fixing GPX waypoint names, adding emotional context, or improving readability for social media, this feature ensures your animation speaks clearly. With just a few taps, you can edit labels, control visibility, and confirm changes without disrupting your route or animation flow.

Start refining your labels and let your travel story speak for itself.
